Sliabh Luachra Journal (Number 19)

The latest issue of the Sliabh Luachra Journal (Number 19) is now available. The 112-publication is full of stories and photographs depicting the history, heritage and lore of the storied area along both sides of the River Blackwater and is being sent to exiles in many lands. The centenary of the War of Independence is commemorated in three articles, with the main contributor being Jeremiah O’Leary who has, over the years, written many articles in the journal on such subjects.Featured musician in this issue is Co Cork man Matt Cranitch, one of the country’s best-known fiddle players. Matt is an acknowledged expert on the music of Sliabh Luachra and the area’s fabled music master, Padraig O’Keeffe.A memorable visit of Cardinal Michael Browne to Knocknagree, in 1962, is recalled by veteran journalist Ray Ryan. The journal, which costs EURO 12.00, contains more than 30 articles and numerous old photographs.
